Exhibition Of 7 Painters Of Water With Various Visual Expressions
JAKARTA - Seven watercolorers will present a joint exhibition titled Renjana at the Cultural Center, Jakarta. This event presents various visual interpretations of the design of an inner push that is often a source of energy in the creative process of artists.
The exhibition will last for one week and is equipped with outdoor art activities scheduled for December 6, 2025.
The artists involved include Michellina Triwardhany, Dian Fitrasari, Niken Vijayanti, Aviliani, Baskoro Sardadi, Erika Enda Ginting, and Dumasi Marisina Magdalena Samosir. The seven are part of Agus Budiyanto Aquarelle Studio (ABAS), the water paint community that houses the image of various professional and experience backgrounds.
Art observer Bambang Asrini explained that the theme Renjana is rooted in the term Sanskrita Ranjana, which refers to the space for happiness and strong emotional impetus in the creation of works. According to him, the term describes creative processes that arise from inner awareness and the search for ever-evolving visual languages.

Bambang also considered this exhibition as a reflection of the painter's personal journey in processing the theme in depth. He called the meeting of these works a manifestation of the dialogue between the artist's emotional experience and appreciation of art connoisseurs.
In the introduction to the exhibition catalog, General Manager of Bentara Budaya Jakarta, Ilham Khoiri, touched on the long history of water paint medium in the development of Indonesian fine arts. He reminded the public of the figure of Lee Manong embracing the palace of President Soekarno' who was known to be good at using this medium. Ilham also said that Soekarno himself had shown his painting skills while in exile in Ende.
Ilham emphasized that water paint art is not limited to professionals or art academy graduates; many activists study independently through the community, including members of ABAS who come from various professions such as architects to banks.
In addition to showing off his work, the committee also held an outdoor painting session on December 6, 2025. This activity was opened to water paint communities and the general public who wanted to participate, with supporting facilities that had been prepared.
The 'Renjana' exhibition is expected to be a meeting space for artists and the public, as well as show the diversity of visual approaches in the realm of water paint art in Indonesia.
