Padang Update: Hundreds Of Houses Submerged, Residents Night In Mosques

Hundreds of houses were flooded in the Atlas area, Ulak Karang Utara, Padang, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) on Friday, November 28 at around 01.00 WIB.

As a result, dozens of residents were forced to flee their respective homes, although some residents chose to stay indoors.

"The water started to enter my house at around 00.10 pm, and the debt continued to increase until 02.00 WIB," said a resident quoted by Antara on Atlas Padrial Street in Padang.

He said the condition of the puddles in his house continued to rise until it reached an altitude of about fifty centimeters.

As a result, the 53-year-old man was forced to flee with his wife and child to the Taufiq Mosque, which is not far from his residence.

"We were forced to flee to this mosque for fear that the water would continue to rise so that it could threaten the safety of me and my family," he explained.

Until 03.00 WIB, Padrial was still staying at the Taufiq Mosque along with dozens of other residents who took refuge while waiting for the water to recede.

Another resident, Sugeng, also fled with his wife and two children at the Taufiq Mosque.

He told that the natural disasters that occurred this year were quite severe, because for the last twenty years his house had never been hit by floods.

"Since twenty years my house has never been flooded, this is the first time I have entered the house even though it is not high," he explained.

Other residents at the Gusnita refugee camp (45) hope that there will be assistance in refugee camps, such as blankets, clothes, drinks, and food.

Refugees at the mosque appear to be dominated by children and women, as well as some elderly people.

"Earlier, when I evacuated, no items could be saved so that it was submerged by the flood, hopefully later there will be assistance coming," he said.
