Strange Interests Expanding On The Side Of The Road, Residents Of Ampenan Mataram Heboh Because The Smell Is Strong
Residents of Taman Sari Village, Ampenan District, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were shocked by the appearance of large flowers that emit an unpleasant aroma resembling the smell of carrion.
The purplish red flower with the yellow center grew outside the fence of a resident's house on the edge of Gili Air Street.
Waluyo, one of the residents who first checked the location, admitted that he received the news during morning exercise.
"Kahui waktu olahraga pagi, ada tetangga mengatakan ini kok bunga ada basarnya. Informasinya sudah ada sejak kemarin sore. Akhirnya saya datang memastikan," ujarnya di Mataram, dikutip dari Antara, Kamis, 27 November.
He added that the pungent aroma was most smelled at dawn. After sunrise, the smell slowly disappeared.
"If it's a little during the day there's no smell. And earlier after dawn there was a bad smell," said the passing mothers," he said.
Monitoring in the field shows the flower blooms with a wide open crown, grows on the sidelines of the grass and is surrounded by plant pots. Its location in an open space makes it easy for residents to see it without having to enter private land.
A number of housewives were seen capturing the moment with a cell phone. They consider the flower's appearance to be a rare event because usually corpse-flavoured flowers grow in the forest, not in densely populated settlements.
"The flower has been in bloom since yesterday. This morning many residents saw it because they were curious. I also uploaded it to the WA RT group so people would know, because it was a waste if we didn't understand. People just went to look into the forest," said Waluyo.
According to local residents, the appearance of a corpse-smelling flower actually happened several years ago. However, at that time residents did not pay much attention because the shape was not as plugging as it is now.
Until now there has been no official statement from the relevant agencies regarding this type of flower. However, residents suspect that the flower is a type of corpse flower from the Araceae family, a group of plants known to emit a foul aroma to attract pollinating insects.
Residents also try to keep the flowers from being damaged, considering that their position is in an open and easily accessible area. They choose to only see and take pictures without touching them.
