Rano Karno Praises Anies For Building JIS, But Unloads A Lot Of Homework That Hasn't Been Completed
JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno assessed that the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) still needs improvement in infrastructure and supporting facilities. He conveyed this in a focus group discussion (FGD) related to the development of the JIS area.
In his remarks, Rano called the construction of JIS in the era of Governor Anies Baswedan an important achievement. However, he stressed that there were still a number of pending jobs that hampered the development of the stadium area.
"We are grateful that in the era of Governor Anies building the JIS stadium, but indeed we also see that there are many obstacles that cannot be completed because there are phases that are not finished, so they are stuck," said Rano at the Jatibaru Technical Service Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 27.
Rano emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government views the JIS area as not only a stadium, but also a public space with various facilities that represent the transformation of Jakarta to a global city.
Around JIS there are residential areas to flood control reservoirs, namely Lake Ring. Therefore, according to Rano, the development of the area needs to be thoroughly planned so as not to be hampered again in the next two years.
"We view this JIS as more than just a match stadium, but a symbol of the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and identity of citizens," he said.
As part of the development of the area, the DKI Provincial Government is also building a bridge connecting JIS with Ancol. The lack of parking access in the stadium area makes this plan deemed important so that visitors can take advantage of parking areas in Ancol.
"We realize that the activation must be accompanied by the provision of optimal accessibility. Therefore, strengthening access to transportation to JIS is a priority," said Rano.
Furthermore, Rano said that the JIS area development plan is in line with the policy direction in the DKI Jakarta Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2025-2029. The focus includes transportation integration, increased road connectivity, providing space for sports and cultural activities, to building a more inclusive urban environment.
"We continue to strive to develop a sustainable integrated transportation system, improve the quality of road infrastructure and connectivity, and present city spaces that support sports, culture and tourism activities," said Rano.
"In addition, building an inclusive and friendly city for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities," he continued.
Rano hopes that the FGD can produce concrete recommendations to improve public transportation services, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen JIS integration with various modes of transportation.
