Managed By Pindad, The National Car Project Is Called Many Large Manufacturers

JAKARTA The Indonesian government is preparing a national car project that is included in the National Strategic Project List (PSN). PT Pindad has also received a special mandate to work on its initial development.

This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. He emphasized that the national car would later be developed with Pindad as its main base.

"The national car runs with Pindad as a base," he told reporters at the GJAW exhibition at ICE BSD, Wednesday, November 26.

Airlangga added, there are several automotive brands that have expressed interest in being involved in the project. However, he has not disclosed which brand details want to take part.

Some brands offer themselves to work together. Yes, later they announced it, because they offered it, "he added.

Previously, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita also revealed that he received this assignment information directly from the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi. Agus said he had held an intensive meeting with the President Director of PT Pindad and his staff.

"I have received directions from the President through the Minister of State Secretary, that the national car development through PSN was carried out by PT Pindad," Agus said in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 12.

Several brands are interested in joining

A number of brands are said to be ready to support this project. Chery, for example, opened up opportunities for collaboration and expressed his readiness to help strengthen the domestic vehicle ecosystem. This was conveyed by the Marketing Director of Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) Budi Darmawan.

"We are basically supportive. As automotive actors, we will support whatever the government needs," Budi said when met in Bogor, West Java, recently.

Not only Chery, Hyundai also expressed interest in participating in the national car project initiated by the government.

"We welcome Hyundai's interest in becoming part of a national car project. This shows the confidence of global investors in the potential of the Indonesian automotive industry," said Airlangga.
