Director Of Badminton: Netflix Movies Shouldn't Be Included In Oscars!

JAKARTA - Director James Cameron made a statement that drew pros and cons responses amid the promotion of his latest film, Avatar: Fire and Ash which will air next month.

In a broadcast with The Town with Matthew Belloni, James Cameron was asked about Netflix's opinion competing with Paramount and Comcast to acquire Warner Bros. Cameron replied he remembered when the Netflix CEO said the theater was dead.

(Ted) Sarandos had said the theater film was dead. Now he is a promising theater if he buys Warner Bros., "said James Cameron.

It's a bad feeling. We'll be releasing a movie for a week or 10 days. Then we consider our film appropriate for Oscar's consideration. Thought is rotten. A film should be made as a film for theaters," he said.

"Academy Awards don't mean anything to me if they don't mean cinemas. It's terrible," he said.

Furthermore, James Cameron considers Netflix original films should not be able to enter as a condition for Oscar nominations unless they change the terms with the release in theaters.

"Netflix should be allowed to compete (at the Oscars) if they release films in 2000 theaters for a month," said James Cameron.

In the past few years, a number of Netflix films have been nominated for Best Films at the Oscars even though they have not released them in theaters.

Roma became Netflix's first film to be nominated in 2019. Then there are The Irishman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Power of the Dog and Emilia Perez.

This year, a number of Netflix films such asctions, Train Dreams, and Jay Kelly are projected in next year's awards. They premiere in theaters in limited time before they release on Netflix.
