Longest In Indonesia, Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge Construction Rampung Mid-2026
BOGOR - The construction of the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge in Bogor Regency, West Java, is targeted to be completed on May 16, 2026. The progress of the construction of the glass bridge, which is considered the longest in Indonesia, has reached 81.35 percent.
This was conveyed by the Site Manager Operation of the Glass Bridge Project Ridwan Budi Santoso to reporters at the location, Wednesday, November 26.
"Well, the initial contract was on 478 calendar days. However, after the contract extension, the implementation period was 614 calendar days or we estimated it was completed in mid-2026," he said.
Ridwan explained that the biggest weight work was structural work, reaching 92 percent. In detail, the weight of the bridge construction includes public work of 1.41 percent, land and geo work of 0.39 percent, asphalt work of 0.09 percent, bridge rehabilitation work of 0.10 percent and residential work and others reaching 5.89 percent.
"With a weight of 81.35 (percent), really, physically it's just like this, yes, because our biggest weight is in steel, wireless and structure. While the rest of the work is small," he said.
He added that the construction of the bridge also uses construction technology which is claimed to be first implemented in Indonesia. In addition, it is designed as the longest glass bridge in Indonesia to beat the Seruni Point Glass Bridge.
"Actually, I didn't say this Glass Bridge was simple, yes, but the area is actually very small," he said.
The Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge is designed as a high-tech suspension bridge with a total length of 275 meters, which is 210 meters long.
The main innovation lies in the use of the Independent Wire Core (IWRC) type steel cable.
According to Ridwan, the steel rail cable technology is concurrently composed of 14 wires. This is not common in Indonesia, but has been adopted from foreign construction standards, especially China.
The main cable or cable suspension consists of 56 large diameter cables that support the entire structure. The cables function like steel veins, giving extraordinary strength in the long span.
The bridge was supported by five main constructuts, namely Counterweight 1, Pilon 1, Pilon 2 and Counterweight 2, with the main Pilon towering about 29.6 meters above the bridge deck.
Security factors are the main priority of the infrastructure. The glass bridge floor has a thickness of 3 centimeters (30 mm). Each glass panel weighs about 600 kilograms.
With such a large weight, the bridge can withstand loads of up to about 500 kg per square meter, meaning it can accommodate large numbers of people.
There is a Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) layer on the right and left of the glass as an alternative footing for visitors with a phobia of height (acrophobia), ensuring the comfort and psychological security of visitors.
According to Ridwan, the bridge is planned to have a service life age of up to 50 years and has been designed earthquake-resistant according to the National Earthquake Map and BMKG.
The project is not only focused on physical construction, but also on surveillance technology.
"This bridge is proposed to adopt Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS) technology, similar to the one used on the Bromo bridge," he said.
SHMS itself serves to measure the behavior of the structure, movement of the cable (creep) and the potential for decreasing the bridge.

In addition, it also functions to provide real-time information to visitors regarding the condition of the bridge.
"So, it is being proposed for SHMS submission. So, later we will apply the technology in Bromo here. Because SHMS is really functioning now, especially for monitoring, then information to tourists regarding the condition of the bridge," he explained.
To note, WIKA has signed a contract for the construction and supervision of the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge worth Rp. 185 billion with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) since September 10, 2024.
The scope of work includes the bore pile, counter weight and pylon foundations, the main & hanger hanging cable, the steel deck structure to the glass floor.
The purpose of building the suspension bridge is as a means of tourism in the Sukamahi Dam area with views of Mount Salak and Pangrango, in order to improve the economy in the Sukamahi area, Bogor Regency, and its surroundings.
