Of The 5 Candidates For The Indonesian National Team Coach Candidates, The Chairman Of PSSI Admits That He Has NotLOCKed

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chairperson (Ketum), Erick Thohir, said that the process of selecting candidates for the Indonesian national team coach is still ongoing. Of the five names of candidates that have been pocketed, the process has not narrowed to certain names.

"Not yet. Later there will be a process (the name of the candidate is narrowed)," said Erick Thohir in a statement quoted from Antara on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Erick also explained that to determine the right coach, the selection process is still ongoing, including an interview by the PSSI Exco (Executive Committee).

For the chairman of PSSI, determining the right coach requires a mature process without having to rush. Especially considering that the closest Indonesian national team agenda only took place in March 2026.

"We don't need to rush because the agenda (Indonesian national team) in the future will only be March (2026)," he said.

Erick said that no names had been confirmed to be strong candidates, including possibly coaches from the Netherlands or a number of other names mentioned by the public, such as Giovanni Van Bronckhorst.

"There is no (certain name) yet," said Erick Thohir.

Regarding the arrival of former coach of the Uzbekistan National Team, Timur Kapadze, to Indonesia, Erick said he had not communicated with the person concerned.

"There is no communication to me," he said.

Rumors on social media call the former coach of the Iraqi National Team, Jesus Casas, and Timur Kapadze a strong candidate to become the new Indonesian national team coach.
