Minister Rosan Reveals RI-China Downstream Project Absorbs 10,000 Workers
JAKARTA - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said the coconut downstream project, which is an investment from China, was able to absorb around thousands of workers.
For the first year, the absorption of the workforce is 5,000 people. Later when it is next year, the absorption of work is up to 10,000 people, and this is a very large derivative product," said Rosan as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 26.
"Well, this is what we do so that the added value is in us. The added value is in us, the job creation is in us," he continued.
Rosan said the investment value of downstream coconut that had entered reached 100 million US dollars or around Rp. 1.65 trillion.
"Indeed, from the investment when compared to minerals, it is far (smaller), in this plantation it may be relatively smaller. The figure that I convey is 100 million US dollars, but the absorption of work can be up to 10,000 people. That's very large," he said.
In addition, the Danantara CEO added that downstream commodities, including coconut, are important in order to create added value or exchange rate for farmers in these various commodity-producing areas.

Coconut commodities, he continued, are very interesting because they have a high added value if processed through the downstream process optimally.
"Earlier, our coconuts were exported to China, they calculated logistics costs, so the selling price of farmers is low, not good. So that's what we assure them they want to invest here so that the selling price of coconut for farmers can be higher, because there are no more logistics costs that must be sent," said Rosan.
"In addition, the absorption of coconut (from the downstream project) per year is 500 million grains per year for one project that has been running, and God willing, this year it will be completed," he concluded.
