Ahead Of Nataru, The Ministry Of Transportation Wants Ngurah Rai Access To Be Free Of Horror Traffic

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation emphasized the importance of traffic flow management in all accesses to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali ahead of Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) transportation.

The Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan emphasized that the management of the flow of shock traffic is important to prevent severe congestion that has the potential to occur during a surge in mobility during the holidays.

This was conveyed by Aan while chairing a coordination meeting for the preparation of Nataru transportation at the Airport Authority Office Region IV, Badung, Tuesday, November 25.

Aan said, the characteristics of the airport are the same as the port, the existence of area limitations, many problems occur outside the airport which results in the airport.

Therefore, Aan asked all parties to regulate access to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport so that there are no obstacles for vehicles entering or leaving the airport area.

"The speed of handling problems outside the airport, such as on toll roads or access roads to the airport, is the key so that there is no extraordinary traffic jam or horror traffic," said Aan in an official statement, Tuesday, November 25.

He stressed that traffic engineering needs to be implemented immediately according to field conditions, considering Injourney Airport's prediction of projecting passenger growth of up to 13.29 percent in the Nataru period this year.

"Traffic engineering that has been prepared please simulate so that all personnel who will be deployed can understand what to do when facing problems that we have predicted. Because the speed of action is the main key to solving problems at crucial points," said Aan.

In addition to the delay system, continued Aan, other traffic engineering that was prepared, especially to overcome the problem of the flow on the road to Ngurah Rai Airport, namely closing the turn access (u turn) and Tuban intersection to the airport entrance if there is an increase in movement.

"In addition, there will also be diversion and closure of a number of roads in the Kuta area on New Year's Eve 2026," he said.

The speed of dealing with problems in the field, continued Aan, must be done in the coordination of all stakeholders. Aan said that this coordination can be done by creating physical integrated posts and digital posts to integrate data from stakeholders' applications.

"Maybe we can integrate data on all applications so that if something happens, it can be handled quickly. The information is also one and the public can be informed what happened," he explained.

In addition, Aan also emphasized the importance of coordinating with BMKG because of the potential for extreme weather during the Nataru period which could affect airport and port operations.

BMKG already has an SOP and the parameters for when to close the airport due to natural factors. So we have to be aware, because according to estimates the wind is strong, heavy rain, high water, we cannot fight natural conditions, meaning we must also have a contingency plan at airports and ports," concluded Aan.
