HK Implements Box Balance Cantilever To Build The Kramasan Toll Bridge On Balai
JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) or HK applies the box balance cantilever method for the construction of a 380 meter long bridge over the Musi River on the Palembang Toll Road trade in Sections 1 and 2 (Kramasan Pangkalan Balai).
"crossing the Musi River is a challenge in itself, both in terms of technical and safety," said Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Mardiansyah in an official statement, quoted Tuesday, November 25.
According to him, the toll road does not only cross large rivers, but also vital areas of community logistics activities.
Mardiansyah explained that the method allowed the bridge structure to be built gradually from two sides to balance each other.
Each section is cast segment by segment until the two spans meet precision in the middle, so that the structure seems to 'grow' in the middle and when the two ends of the span meet, then a strong structure and precision are formed.
In addition to providing structural stability, the method ensures that traffic activity in the Musi River continues to run safely and is not disrupted.
This approach was chosen to minimize disturbances in community activities and logistics flows that cross the Musi River.
"With this method, we ensure that river traffic continues to run normally while maintaining the safety of workers and the environment around the project," he said.
By the end of October 2025, the progress of the construction of the two sections had reached 85.74 percent.
The section will be an important link between the Kramasan Gate and the Pangkalan Balai Toll Gate while strengthening connectivity in South Sumatra.
The Palembang 'Betung Toll Road has a total length of 70.19 kilometers (km) which is divided into three sections, namely Section 1 Palembang Rengas (22.50 km), Section 2 Rengas "Pangkalan Balai (33 km) and Section 3 Balai Base Betung (14.69 km).

The construction of the section is part of accelerating the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) which continues to be developed to provide more equitable and sustainable connectivity on the island of Sumatra.
The Company hopes that the infrastructure development can provide real benefits for the community.
The toll road is expected to be able to strengthen Palembang's connectivity with the surrounding area, facilitate logistics distribution and support daily activities of South Sumatra residents.
"With easier access and shorter travel times, this development is believed to open up new economic opportunities and provide comfort for people who use them," he added.
