Australian Open 2025: Alwi Farhan Disappointed To Fail To Silence Chou Tien Chen
JAKARTA Men's singles Alwi Farhan was disappointed that he failed to take advantage of his advantage to beat Chou Tien Chen in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2025.
Alwi, eighth seed in the tournament, failed to break into the semifinals after suffering a dramatic three-game 21-13, 21-23, and 16-21 defeat against the single China Taipei at the Quaycentre Arena, Sydney, on Friday, November 21, 2025.
The 2023 junior world champion is actually already on the verge of victory. He secured the first game and then took the lead 20-15 in the second game.
"Disappointed with the results. I was already ahead in the second game and had a match point, but couldn't take advantage of the opportunity," said the 20-year-old badminton player.

This latest result worsened Alwi's winning record against Chou Tien Chen to 0-2. Previously, another defeat that Alwi suffered also occurred this year, to be precise at the Hong Kong Open in September 2025.
Alwi's defeat made Indonesia's men's singles in Australia also certain to run out. Alwi followed the steps taken by Jonatan Christie and Yohanes Saut Marcellyno who were eliminated early in the first half.
Alwi will then prepare to appear in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand which will take place next month. Badminton is pursuing the target of two gold medals at the event.
"Hopefully in the SEA Games later I can come back stronger," said Alwi.
Apart from Alwi, the journey of women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti also ran aground in the quarter-finals. They were beaten by compatriots, Rachel Alllessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum.
