Cliff As High As 10 Meters Longsor In Ponorogo, Heavy Equipment Wait Handling
JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with waega worked together to deal with landslides that cut off the main access between Wagir Kidul Village and Banaran Village, in Ponorogo Regency, East Java, Thursday, November 20.
The cliff as high as about 10 meters collapsed after four hours of heavy rain, hoarding two houses and a number of vehicles, and blocking the village axis road.
The head of Bangunsari Hamlet, Nur Wijayanto, said that the main route cannot be passed by vehicles, so hundreds of residents from six RTs in Wagir Kidul and two RTs in Banaran are threatened with isolation.
Residents must turn 6 7 kilometers through alternative routes.
"Temporary cleaning is done manually while waiting for heavy equipment. The information is that today heavy equipment is lowered to open access," said Nur, quoted by Antara.
One of the houses buried by landslide material belongs to Jemirin.
At the time of the incident, he was milking a cow behind the house before hearing a rumbling sound from the direction of the cliff.
"As soon as I came forward, the house was covered in land. Three cars and one motorbike I was buried and completely damaged," said Jemirin.
All parts of the house, from terraces, garages to living rooms, were damaged by clay and stone material.
There were no casualties, but material losses were quite large.
BPBD Ponorogo together with volunteers and residents are still cleaning manually at the location because thick materials slow down the handling process.
Village officials also asked residents to increase their vigilance, because the potential for further landslides is still there.
