Lumajang Regency Government Issues Circular Of Emergency Response To Semeru Eruption

JAKARTA - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Lumajang, East Java, issued Circular Letter Number 6 of 2025 regarding the Emergency Response to the Mount Semeru Eruption Natural Disaster in line with the increase in the status of Mount Semeru to Alert or Level IV on November 19, 2025 at 17.00 WIB.

Circular is addressed to all heads of regional apparatus, sub-district heads, village heads, and communities in affected areas and the wider community.

"I have declared the emergency response status for the eruption of Mount Semeru through Regent Decree No. 100.3.2/595/KEP/427.12/2025. The decision is valid for 7 days, from 19 to 25 November 2025, as a quick and integrated step in dealing with the impact of the eruption," said Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 19.

The move follows the increase in the status of Mount Semeru to Level IV (Awas) on November 19, 2025, signaling the highest level of threat for residents on slopes and around mountain areas.

Several important points in the circular are to increase awareness of the development and impact of the eruption of Mount Semeru, then anticipate by securing themselves to a temporary safe place to avoid the impact of the eruption while waiting for further developments.

"Camat and village heads are asked to secure and direct their citizens, while coordinating with other officials so that handling steps run optimally," he said.

The public is advised to stay away from affected areas, check information from official media, and avoid spreading news that is not certain about the truth so as not to cause panic.

"Heads of related regional apparatuses are asked to carry out countermeasures according to their respective authorities to reduce the risk and impact of the eruption," he said.

The regent who is usually called Indah said the circular was a guideline for all regional apparatus and the community to be responsive to potential hazards and be able to take quick safe steps

The Lumajang Regency Government again appealed to the public to comply with official directives, maintain communication, and remain in a safe location until the mountain conditions stabilize again.

" Cross-sectoral coordination will continue to be carried out to ensure that every mitigation step is effective and the risk of victims is minimized," he said.

Indah appealed to the public to remain calm and comply with government directives. Coordination between villages, sub-districts, and district governments continues to be strengthened so that no residents are in the red zone or dangerous areas.

"Determination of emergency response status is not just an administrative obligation, but a tangible form of concern and protection for the community. With strong coordination, careful preparedness, and citizen participation, it is hoped that the impact of disasters will be minimized," he said.
