Police Investigate Case Of Mistreatment Of Toddler To Death In Banjarmasin

BANJARMASIN - Banjarmasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) is investigating a case of alleged mistreatment of children under five years old (toddlers) to death while undergoing medical treatment at Bhayangkara Hospital Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

"This case is being investigated in connection with the alleged mistreatment until the toddler died while in medical care," said Banjarmasin Police Chief Police Commissioner Alfian Tri Parmadi in Banjarmasin, as quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 23.

The case began to be investigated after the victim's grandfather with the initials SY (45) reported an irregularity in the death of his grandson with the initials NM (4).

The case, said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, began on Sunday, May 2 at around 17:00 central Indonesia time. At that time SY was contacted by the victim's family to enter the hospital.

After that, at 17:30 central Indonesia time, SY and his wife headed to the hospital. Upon arrival at Bhayangkara Hospital, we were informed that the victim had passed away.

SY was shocked and wanted to see the victim in the hospital. SY saw the deceased victim with a lot of bruises on the face and abdomen.

At that time the victim was wearing only a white shirt and pampers wrapped in a blanket. SY and his wife and others immediately took the victim to the home of the parents who took care of the victim since childhood until the age of 4 years and 7 months.

"On Monday (3/5) the deceased victim was buried in the area around Syamsudin Noor Banjarbaru Airport," he said.

After the incident, SY reported the strangeness of his granddaughter's death to the Banjarmasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit to find out what was the main cause of his grandson's death which was previously reported as a bicycle accident.

"According to SY, this victim never rode a bike. We see the medical records look suspicious because it is not like the victims of bicycle accidents," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit.

In order to investigate the case and prove the suspicion, the investigators from Banjarmasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit will carry out the demolition of the victim's grave located in the Banjarbaru area around the airport to perform an autopsy.

"If there are no obstacles, on Monday (24/5) we will perform an autopsy of the victim's body. However, for the time being, it is still coordinating with forensic medicine," he said.
