The Mount Semeru Climbing Line Is Closed, There Are Hundreds Of Climbers Down From Ranu Kumbolo Tomorrow Morning
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (TNBTS) closed the hiking trail on Mount Semeru, East Java, after the eruption on Wednesday.
Head of the TNBTS Center Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha in Kota said the closure of the hiking trail was due to an increase in the status of Mount Semeru, from level II (Alert) to level III (Alert) and is now level IV (Awas).
"In connection with information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) regarding the activity level of Mount Semeru from level II to level IV, Mount Semeru's climbing activities are declared closed," said Rudi as quoted by ANTARA.
The closure of the Mount Semeru climbing route is stated in a notification letter issued by the TNBTS Center as of today, with Number: PG.17/T.8/TU/HMS.01.08/B/11/2025 concerning the Closure of Mount Semeru Climbing.
The closure also considers the recommended hazard radius from PVMBG, which is eight kilometers from the peak and sectoral 20 kilometers to the south-southeast.
The closure of the Mount Semeru climbing route is carried out until conditions in the area are actually declared safe for climbing activities.
Rudi stated that every climber who has already purchased a climbing ticket to the mountain online, through the official bromotenggersemeru.id website, can reschedule.
"We hope this can be a concern for prospective climbers, communities, and nature lovers to comply with the recommendations of the danger zone from PVMBG," he said.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Pranata of the TNBTS Center Endrip Wahyutama said the conditions in Ranu Kumbolo were still conducive because their position was on the north side, while hot clouds were observed moving to the southeast.
"Therefore, visitors still spend the night at the location, considering the return trip to Ranupani is quite risky because it is late and the weather in the area is rainy," he said.
His party ensured that all climbers who were still in Ranu Kumbolo would travel down to Ranipani, on Thursday (20/11/2025) at 08.00 WIB.
"We continue to coordinate with the guides of the registered Mount Semerut climbing assistants (PPGST) and until now the condition of visitors is still safe and under control," he said.
