Beware, Cybercriminals Spread Phishing In The Samsung Members Application

JAKARTA Cybercriminals have used the Samsung Members application to spread phishing attacks. This scam was launched through a fake account that pretended to be Samsung's official channel.

Samsung Members is Samsung's official application that offers various functions for Galaxy users. In this application, users can find out information such as technical support and device diagnostics.

Users can also get exclusive benefits such as discounts. Supposedly, this application is safe from various cybercrimes, but a user with the username GaryB82 in the US Samsung Community forum managed to find a fake account.

As reported by Android Authority, the fraudster sends a message claiming that the recipient's account urgently requires 'urgent verification'. The message then directs the user to click on a malicious link.

If the link is knocked on, hackers can access users' personal information. This cybercriminal is also known to extort victims by including the threat of a fine of USD 500 (IDR 8.3 million) if the victim does not comply with instructions within 24 hours.

Similar scams were also reported by a user named Paurav at the European Samsung Community forum. This indicates that attacks did not only occur in the US, but also in several other areas.

Although it comes from two different accounts, the contents of the scam messages are almost the same and have poor grammar. The message has less professional subjects such as 'URGENT Account Verification Notice for Samsung'.

These cybercriminals also refer to fictitious laws to strengthen their hoaxes. They refer to International Law No. S67 EU-DIG-ID-2025 which is completely non-existent.
