Governor Arrested, Budget Told-Attik: KPK Reveals Reasons For Searching Riau Education Office

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed the reason for the search of the Riau Education Office on November 13, 2025, starting with the initial information received by the anti-corruption agency.

"Every search conducted by investigators is of course a consideration. Departing from the data and information obtained to then complete the data and information that the investigators already have," said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo, when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 18.

Budi explained that the search was related to a case of alleged corruption in the form of extortion within the Riau Provincial Government for the 2025 fiscal year. The alleged extortion was said to have occurred after an additional budget in a number of agencies.

"Are these modes also taking place in other agencies or other sectors? Therefore, the team in the field also immediately tracked down and traced whether similar modes occurred in other agencies," said Budi.

Previously, on November 3, 2025, the KPK confirmed the arrest of Riau Governor Abdul Wahid and eight other people in a hand arrest operation (OTT). A day later, the Governor's Expert, Dani M. Nursalam, surrendered to the KPK.

On November 5, 2025, the KPK announced the determination of Abdul Wahid (AW), Head of the Riau PUPRPKPP Service M Arief Setiawan (MAS), and Expert Staff of Governor Dani M. Nursalam (DAN) as suspects in cases of alleged corruption related to extortion within the Riau Provincial Government.

The search then continued. On November 10, the KPK confiscated budget documents from the Riau Governor's Office; on November 11, budget shifts documents from the PUPRPKPP Service; and on November 12, similar documents from the Riau BPKAD Office.
