IPhone 18 Is Predicted To Forever Change Android Flagship Release Schedule
JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly preparing for major changes to the iPhone launch strategy starting in 2026. This move is expected to shake up the global smartphone industry. Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to break the iPhone release schedule to two seasons, namely the fall and spring, a new strategy that has never been done before on a large scale.
Since the iPhone 4S era in 2011, Apple has always introduced the iPhone's main line in September or October. This change will end the tradition. According to reports, Apple will launch premium models such as the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first alleged foldable device called the iPhone Fold in the fall of 2026. Regular models such as the iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Air, and the iPhone 18e will actually be released six months later in the spring.
This new strategy is considered as Apple's way of stabilizing revenue throughout the year, reducing supply chain stress, and avoiding marketing collisions between its own products. With the deployment of this release schedule, Apple also has more opportunities to respond to launches of competitors such as Samsung and Google. Bloomberg even said Apple is likely to release five to six iPhone models each year "the largest number ever created by the company."

The impact of this change is expected to be felt on Android producers. Over the past few years, Android manufacturers have tended to launch their flagship closer to the iPhone launch schedule. With Apple's two-season strategy, this pattern is expected to change completely.
The launch of the premium class Android flagship is likely to move to a period towards the end of the year to compete directly with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. Meanwhile, mid-range Android devices, value flagship, and standard models are predicted to be released in the February to April range to challenge the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
Samsung will probably be the fastest-adjusting Android producer. The South Korean company is expected to combine the release of the Galaxy S Ultra with the Galaxy Z Fold in the fall in order to compete with Apple's premium models. While the Galaxy S is regular and the Galaxy FE could be moved to spring. Models like the Galaxy Z Flip are still flexible and can enter any of those two seasons.
Google is also expected to adjust their strategy. The launch of the Pixel Pro, including the Pixel Pro Fold, is likely to continue in the fall. But regular Pixels may be moved to spring and released alongside the Pixel A series so that it no longer accumulates in October.
Rumors are also circulating that the iPhone Air is not part of Apple's annual cycle. The device is considered a technology project that helps Apple prepare to build an iPhone Fold. The iPhone Air 2 is said to be focusing on using 2nm chips, not major structural changes.
With all these changes, 2026 looks set to be the most different year for the smartphone world in the past decade. If Apple's two-season strategy is really implemented, the smartphone industry will enter a new rhythm instead of a dominating iPhone season, but two major competition seasons each year.
