The Kremlin Hopes President Putin And President Trump's Summit Can Be Implemented Soon

JAKARTA - The Kremlin said on Monday the latest Summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Donald Trump could take place as soon as preparations were completed.

The two last leaders met in Alaska in August, discussing a possible resolution to end the war in Ukraine.

Last month, the two leaders announced plans for a summit in Budapest. However, the White House leader immediately canceled it on the grounds that the timing felt inappropriate.

When asked if Moscow had missed the opportunity, and under what conditions the two leaders had just met materialized, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "We can hardly predict when this condition will happen. Although, of course, we all want this condition to happen sooner than later," as reported by Al Arabiya from Reuters.

Peskov further said that both sides agreed that the summit between leaders needed careful preparation to be productive.

"Therefore, as soon as this preparation is complete and conditions for organizing the summit are available, we hope that the summit will be implemented," said Pekov.

Earlier, President Trump again expressed his frustration with President Putin when canceling the planned Summit in Budapest.

"Every time I talk to Vladimir, my conversation goes smoothly, but after that there is no progress," he said.

President Trump later announced the imposition of sanctions against Russia on October 22, targeting oils of Rosneft and Lukoil, related to the war in Ukraine.

Yesterday, President Trump said Republicans were working on a law that would impose sanctions on any country doing business with Russia, something Moscow says Peskov will strongly oppose.

"We'll see how this bill develops and what details are involved. Of course, we will be very negative on that," he said.

Earlier, President Trump had sharply raised India's rates of goods, citing India's purchase of Russian oil, which Moscow said was an illegal trade pressure.
