Ederson Expresses Reasons For Leaving Manchester City
Brazil goalkeeper Ederson said he was breathing back into the world of football at Fenerbahce after eight years at Manchester City.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper admits he is unhappy at the Etihad and has asked to leave the club in 2024.
He joined Fenerbahce in September 2025 on a permanent transfer status and signed a three-year contract with the Turkish club.
"The previous season I had tried to leave (Manchester City), but it didn't work."
"It affected my performance. I suffered five injuries, I was not at the highest level. Leaving Manchester City was a decision I made with my family. I have spoken to the club."

"With this change, I am again feeling the atmosphere of football and feeling the atmosphere of the match in Turkey, it is extraordinary," Ederson said at a press conference while serving internationally with Brazil.
Ederson is key to Manchester City's success under Pep Guardiola, including the treble season in the 2022/2023 season and four consecutive Premier League titles (2021-2024).
"Early an incredible year with Manchester City. I won 18 titles, but I need these changes and changing atmospheres."
"When Fenerbah Maria came, I accepted it. I continued the mentality of my champion, the mentality of the same champion as the one I had at Manchester City and Benfica."
"I also want to win at Fenerbah kaline. Sometimes, it's great fun to have new challenges in life and career. It brings new energy, a lot of positive things, and something new in you," he said.
Ederson, who last played for Brazil in November 2024, hopes to compete in his third World Cup next year. Currently, he is in Carlo Ancelotti's newest squad.
"I missed the last few calls with injuries, but my hopes (to enter the 2026 World Cup squad) are high."
"However, no player is guaranteed a place," said the goalkeeper again.
Ederson also has high hopes for helping Fenerbahce win their first domestic title since 2014.
"I am very happy with this challenge. This club has not won the domestic title for a long time. I hope it can help reclaim that glory and bring the club back to the top," he said.
