LMKN Starting Digitalization Steps, Ari Bias: We'll See What The Results Are Like

JAKARTA - The National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) has launched a platform called Inspiration as a step towards digitization in managing music royalties.

As is known, through the Regulation of the Minister of Law (Permenkum) Number 27 of 2025, LMKN is a single institution tasked with collecting royalties for performing rights.

Meanwhile, the distribution of royalties to creators, copyright holders and related rights is carried out by the Collective Management Institute (LMK).

Meanwhile, the collection of previous undigitalized music royalties was the target of criticism by Indonesian music industry players, especially songwriters.

With the launch of Inspiration, it is hoped that royalty management will be more efficient, as well as more transparent and just.

Responding to the emergence of Inspiration, Ari Bias, a songwriter who is also a member of the All-Indonesian Composter Association (AKSI), welcomed LMKN's efforts.

But for Ari, the use of digital platforms by LMKN does not mean that all problems have been resolved. He is still waiting for the results of the performance of the platform.

"It seems that LMKN has also prepared a digital platform for licensing and licensing from royalty payments from music performances. We'll see what the results will be. I'm also monitoring and seeing if the performance of this predicted platform can be a solution," Ari told the media crew at Senayan, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, November 11.

"(The question) will work well or not? We don't know yet. But we give it a chance," he added.

Ari said that since the beginning of its formation in 2023, ACTION has also encouraged digitalization efforts in the governance of music royalties.

However, digitization is not the only problem, he mentioned the importance of ensuring its implementation in accordance with the provisions, in order to prosper songwriters.

"Because the ACTION has also encouraged digitalization from the start. So, whatever the digitalization process is for the good of royalty governance, we support it," said Ari.

"The only problem is whether the implementation is correct or not, whether the implementation is appropriate or not? Can it improve the welfare of songwriters, which in the sense can increase the number of royalty withdrawals? (Is it) that the musical performance was not possible, now you can? Well, we are still waiting for its performance," he said.
