Continuing To Advance, Russian Troops Attack Settlements In Zaporizhia

JAKARTA - Russian troops stormed three settlements in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhia region. Moscow forces are currently expanding their efforts to capture more Ukrainian territory.

The thick fog allows Russian troops to infiltrate Ukraine's position in Zaporizhia, wrote General Oleksandr Syrskyi on the Telegram messaging app reported by AP, Wednesday, November 12. According to him, Ukrainian units were locked in a "satire battle" to fend off Russian attacks.

Russia launched a massive invasion of its neighboring country nearly four years ago and now occupies about a fifth of Ukraine's territory.

The new US sanctions targeting Russia's oil sector, which is the backbone of the Russian economy, will take effect on November 21.

The goal is to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Kyiv officials are at risk of being distracted by an increasingly widespread corruption scandal ensnaring senior government officials. Ukraine's Minister of Justice, Herman Halushchenko, was temporarily dismissed from office on Wednesday after being investigated, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced.
