Regarding Rupiah Redenomination, Chairman Of Commission XI Reminds Phased Transitions To Avoid Risks
JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI, Mukhamad Misbakhun, emphasized that the DPR is ready to discuss the Draft Law (RUU) Redenomination of Rupiah following the government's affirmation regarding the plan to simplify the nominal amount of money, from Rp1,000 to Rp1, as part of the modernization of the national financial system.
"In principle, we welcome this redenomination plan. We are ready to discuss it as long as all aspects of technical, transition and public readiness have been considered and prepared carefully," he said in his official statement, Wednesday, November 12.
He explained that redenomination has the potential to facilitate transactions and financial records, but still requires comprehensive planning so as not to cause confusion in the community.
Misbakhun added that it is therefore important for the government to compile a clear roadmap, including the transition stage from old money to new money and its socialization strategy.
In addition, Misbakhun emphasized the need for public education, especially for MSME players who will feel the direct impact of changing the nominal price.
"We want this policy to run carefully and not cause disturbances in the field. The main focus is the clarity of the stages and readiness of the community," he said.

To ensure smooth implementation, he also suggested that the government through Bank Indonesia would first conduct a limited pilot project before the redenomination was fully enforced.
"Most importantly, Bank Indonesia must ensure that inflation and payment system stability are maintained during the process of change," he added.
Misbakhun emphasized the commitment of Commission XI of the DPR to oversee the discussion of this bill so that redenomination can be implemented properly and provide tangible benefits for the national economy.
"The DPR is ready to work with the government so that this policy does not cause new burdens for the people," he said.
