BMKG: Beware Of Thunderstorms In Several Regions Of Indonesia Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of light rain and light rain that will flush most parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, November 11.

BMKG Yohanes forecaster in a Youtube broadcast quoted by Antara, Jakarta explained, from Sumatra Island, he said, Banda Aceh City is predicted to be thick cloudy, while Medan, Pekanbaru, and Tanjung Pinang cities have the potential for light rain.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the city of Padang," said Yohanes.

Still on the island of Sumatra, he continued, light rain is forecast in the Palembang area, while people in the Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandar Lampung areas are asked to be aware of driven rain.

Turning to Java, he said, light rain is predicted to flush the cities of Serang, Jakarta and Surabaya, while rain with moderate intensity is forecast in Yogyakarta.

"Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in the Bandung and Semarang areas," said Yohanes.

Then it shifted to the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, he continued, light rain had the potential to occur in Denpasar and Mataram, while the city of Kupang was forecasted to rain accompanied by lightning.

Moving to Kalimantan Island, said Yohanes, light rain is forecast in Palangkaraya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin, as well as moderate-intensity rain in the Tanjung Selor area.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the Pontianak area," he said.

Then, moving to Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in Manado City, thick cloudy in Gorontalo, while Palu, Kendari, and Makassar have the potential for light rain.

"Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in the Mamuju area," said Yohanes.

Then for Eastern Indonesia, he continued, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in the Jayapura area, while light rain has the potential to flush the areas of Ambon, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, and Jayawijaya.

"The Merauke area is forecasted to rain with moderate intensity," said Yohanes.

The BMKG also warned the public to be aware of high sea waves reaching 2.5 to 4 meters in the western Indian Ocean of the Mentawai Islands to Bengkulu, as well as the Pacific Ocean in northern Papua.

The public is also asked to be aware of tidal flooding on the coasts of the Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, Banten, Jakarta, south of West Java, northern Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Maluku.

People in the Pangkal Pinang, Serang, and Surabaya areas are also asked to be alert for high temperatures which are predicted to reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.
