Sugiri Sancoko Regent's Bribery Case, KPK: Raise Unhealthy Competition Between Office Heads
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the case of buying and selling positions caused cases of other alleged corruption crimes, such as within the Ponorogo Regency Government, East Java, involving the Regent of Ponorogo Sugiri Sancoko.
"What is the evidence? When there is a project at work, the SKPD (regional work unit), or in its service, then the first thing to think about is how to get some money from the project as compensation for what they have spent on getting the position," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, November 9.
Asep explained that this could happen because the parties involved had to compete to defend or get a position.
"This will eventually become unhealthy because the competition between service heads or between officials is not competition in order to provide services to the community, but competition in how to get the position, and it will spread to the implementation of its duties," he said.
Therefore, Asep emphasized that the case of buying and selling positions made the parties involved only think about ways to get a position, not provide the best service to the community.
Previously, on November 9, 2025, the KPK announced that it had named four people as suspects in the alleged bribery case for office management, work project at Dr. Harjono Ponorogo Regional General Hospital, and other receipts or gratuities within the Ponorogo Regency Government, East Java.
The four people are Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko (SUG), Director of RSUD Dr. Harjono Ponorogo Yunus Mahatma (YUM), Regional Secretary of Ponorogo Agus Pramono (AGP), and Sucipto (SC) as a private party or partner of the Ponorogo Hospital.
