Minister Of Home Affairs Claims Prabowo's Program Sides With Weak Economic Community

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sriwijaya University Tito Karnavian assessed that President Prabowo Subianto's government was making a big shift in the direction of national economic development.

Tito said that previously Indonesia was more oriented towards the liberal capitalization economic system, now the direction is starting to shift to the people's economic system.

"This shift can be seen from various government programs that side with the weak economy society and based on the spirit of social justice," Tito said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 7.

This was conveyed by Tito in a scientific oration entitled The Role of Higher Education in Supporting Indonesia Gold 2045 at the 65th Anniversary of Sriwijaya University.

Tito explained that the new direction of the people's economy is in line with the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution which emphasizes that the earth, water, and natural wealth are controlled by the state for the greatest prosperity of the people.

According to him, the Prabowo era economic policy showed a commitment to correct social inequality that arose due to the liberal capitalization system.

Previously, the economic system tended to make the rich richer, while it was difficult for the weak to advance to class. Now, through people's social policies, welfare is more directed at all levels of society," he said.

He gave an example of a number of programs that reflect these shifts, such as social assistance, scholarships for the underprivileged, the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program, school revitalization, community housing development, and the establishment of the Red and White Village Cooperative.

"All of them are concrete forms of efforts to build a social justice economy," said Tito.

The Minister of Home Affairs also emphasized that the direction of this new economy is not only about equitable wealth, but also strengthening human resources (HR). According to him, Indonesia will not be able to become a developed country just by relying on natural resources.

"Progressing countries always rely on superior human resources. Therefore, universities must act as think tanks that produce productive, innovative, and integrity generations to realize Indonesia Gold 2045," he said.

Tito quoted data from World Bank and McKinsey showing that Indonesia has the potential to become the fourth dominant country in the world in 2045, under China, India, and the United States. This potential, said Tito, can only be achieved if the national economic direction is carried out with an inclusive populist principle.

"With an economic system of social justice and supported by superior human resources, I am sure that Indonesia will get out of the middle income trap and really become a developed country in 2045," said the Minister of Home Affairs.
