Prabowo Asks The Police Reform Commission To Give Reports In 3 Months
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto asked the Police Reform Acceleration Commission to immediately work and submit an initial report within three months of the commission's formation.
Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission Jimly Asshiddiqie said the President had given directions on the steps the team needed to prepare, the results of which would be reported regularly to the Head of State.
"This commission is expected to work as soon as possible, but the President does not provide a time limit. At least 3 months there have been reports, although it can develop as needed," said Jimly at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday, November 7, as reported by ANTARA.
Jimly explained that President Prabowo set three months for the Commission to submit an initial report. However, if the Commission's work takes longer, for example six months, it is still possible as needed.
"But for example it takes 6 months, 6 months. So hopefully this will be finished as soon as possible, we hope that each of them will have a busy schedule and this is a very serious matter and must be responded to effectively. If for example 3 months is finished, God willing, it will be finished, then in 2026 there will be things, other things we need to think about," he said.
Jimly said the inaugural commission meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday (10/11) at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta. The team is expected to work quickly and openly by listening to aspirations from various circles, including community leaders, activists, and internal police parties.
He added that President Prabowo emphasized that the formation of this commission was part of an effort to respond to public aspirations regarding the need for an evaluation of the police, which peaked last August during a major demonstration.
Jimly explained that the results of the team's work not only focused on recommendations, but also on the reform policy formulation process involving various parties.
The Commission will also synergize with an internal team set up by the National Police Chief, which focuses on improving management within the police.
"So that between this team and the team that has been formed by the National Police Chief, hopefully this will support each other and we consider the internal team of the National Police as a team that describes the responsiveness of the National Police Chief, right, responding to the aspirations immediately, a sign of the police's internal readiness to be open, for whatever needs to be improved, we will fix it," said Jimly.
It is known that the President inaugurated 10 members of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday afternoon.
