Police Have Arrested A Gang Of Tower Cable Thieves In South Lampung

South Lampung Police uncovered a case of cable theft in the telecommunication tower area belonging to PT Huawei Tech Investment in Solo Hamlet, Tanjungsari Village, Palas District.

Palas Police Chief Iptu Suyitno said the disclosure was the result of the development of the arrest of three perpetrators of cable theft in Canggung Village, Rajabasa District, some time ago.

From the examination, the perpetrators admitted that they had carried out a similar action in the Palas area. The police immediately followed up on the confession by conducting an investigation to the location mentioned," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 6.

The police team immediately conducted an investigation and found the rest of the copper cable pieces and the tools used by the perpetrators to act. The evidence strengthens the confessions of the suspects who had previously been secured by the South Lampung Police.

The three perpetrators had the initials AL (26), HM (26), and AS (21), all residents of Merak Belantung Village, Kalianda District, are suspected of stealing 350 meters of cable with a loss value of Rp. 24.5 million.

The perpetrators climbed the tower fence and cut the cable from top to bottom using a stab key and screwdriver. After that the cable was burned for copper to be taken and sold to collectors outside the area," he said.

From the results of the police investigation, they managed to confiscate three pieces of tower cable, a black Suzuki Carry car, and the tools used by the perpetrators.

His party also continues to trace the network of stolen collectors which are suspected to be still related to the action.

"We don't stop here. Case development continues because there are indications that the perpetrators have acted several times in the South Lampung area," he said.

AtAS' actions of the suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft by weight, with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

"We invite residents not to hesitate to report if they know that there are people who are pacing around in vital areas such as towers, substations, or warehouses. Citizens' cooperation is very helpful for us in maintaining environmental security," he said.
