RI Projects To Downstream EV Batteries In The Next Two Years

JAKARTA - Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Industry, Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Setia Diarta said Indonesia is projecting the downstream of motorcycle and car vehicle batteries in the next two years.

"So maybe in the next two years there will be downstreaming of batteries produced from Indonesia itself, especially nickel-based batteries," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 5.

He said the government was still trying to encourage downstreaming of batteries, as evidenced by the presence of factories from several consortiums that were in the construction process in Karawang and also several consortiums involving State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

The largest automotive exhibition in Indonesia is also echoed by environmentally friendly vehicles or electric vehicles.

According to Setia Diarta, every outlet present at this automotive exhibition features low-emissioned vehicles, as well as providing education regarding the benefits of using environmentally friendly vehicles.

"So every time we come, we can see the development and contribution of vehicles exhibited to emissions, developments in the technology used, types of batteries, and all kinds that we can interact directly," he explained.

General Chairman of Gaikindo Putu Juli Ardika said that the development of vehicle technology, especially in electric vehicles, is considered very appropriate for people in South Sulawesi, because of excess electricity production in this area.

"Technology for these vehicles makes it possible to carry out charging at home. So even as the road can be arranged, especially in South Sulawesi, the electricity production is excessive," he said.

"Jadi potensinya besar, apalagi tingkat kepemilikan kendaraan per seribu orang masih kecil," ujarnya.

Gaikindo noted that GIIAS Makassar had a fairly large contribution with a target of 4.1 percent of sales throughout Indonesia

Putu Juli is optimistic about the sale because Makassar is the hub for Eastern Indonesia with a population of around 1.4 million people and in Eastern Indonesia there are around 50 million people.

"So the potential is large, especially since the ownership rate of vehicles per thousand people is still small," he said.
