Max Dowman Breaks Champions League Youngest Player Record
JAKARTA - Arsenal's talented young player, Max Dowman, became the youngest player in Champions League history after entering as a substitute and making his debut in the tournament on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, early morning WIB.
The historic moment occurred in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Slavia Prague, when Dowman replaced Leandro Trossard in the 82nd minute.
At the age of 15 years and 308 days, Dowman broke the record previously held by Youssoufa Moukoko - who was 16 years old 18 days when he first played for Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.
Moukoko at that time broke a record held for 26 years by Celestine Babayaro, who was 16 and 86 days old when the Nigerian left-back started for Anderlehcht at Steaua Bucharest in November 1994. Babayaro was sent off in the first half of the match.

Since Moukoko's debut, Lamine Yamal started for Barcelona at the age of 16 68 days againstanyarpin September 2023, placing him in second place on the list at the time.
However, now Max Dowman is at the top of the list of the youngest players in the Champions League. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also praised the young star.
"When the first ball he got, he immediately passed through the opponent. He started dribbled and was violated. That's personality, that's courage."
"You can't teach it--you have it or not. Whatever is written on the passport, you put it in this context and it is able to adapt and perform well," Arteta said as quoted by ESPN.
Dowman has become Arsenal's youngest starter after being included in the club's line-up when they won the Carabao Cup over Brighton last week.
The record comes weeks after he became the second youngest player - after his Arsenal teammate, Ethan Nwaneri - who appeared in the Premier League after making his debut against Leeds United, also as a substitute in the second half in August 2025.
Dowman is a left-handed attacking midfielder born in Chelmsford - a city in the Essex region, northeastern London - and joined Arsenal at the age of 5 in May 2015.
He made his debut for Arsenal U-18 at the age of 13 and became the youngest goalscorer in the UEFA Youth League at the age of 14, when he played for Arsenal U-19.
ESPN reported last month that Dowman had agreed to a scholarship deal that would take effect when he was 16 on December 31, 2025.
FIFA regulations state that players cannot sign professional contracts until they are 17 years old, meaning Arsenal are facing a tense wait to tie a talent that has attracted interest from across Europe.
However, several sources told ESPN that Dowman, a big fan of Arsenal, views his future at the club.
