BNPB Prioritizes Repair Of Broken Embankments In Bekasi To Prevent Follow-Up Floods

BEKASI - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) prioritizes repairing collapsed embankments in Bekasi Regency, West Java, to prevent further flooding after inundation in a number of areas began to gradually recede.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the repair of the embankment was the main step in the emergency transition to post-flood recovery.

"BNPB has distributed material assistance in the form of 150 cubic sand and 5,000 geobags for repair of temporary embankments in affected areas," said Abdul Muhari in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 5.

BNPB confirmed that the floods that previously hit seven sub-districts in Bekasi Regency since Friday, October 31, are now remaining in Sukatani District.

A joint team from BPBD, Sungai Basin Center (BBWS), Environmental Service, and Bekasi Kodim 0509 are still working in the field to strengthen embankments and accelerate the cleaning of remaining materials.

In addition, two heavy equipment from BNPB were deployed to facilitate the flow of the river, while BBWS deployed six additional heavy equipment to speed up the river normalization process.

Abdul explained that efforts to strengthen the embankment were carried out in conjunction with the distribution of logistical assistance and cleaning equipment to affected residents.

"BNPB ensures logistical support such as ready-to-eat food, blankets, mattresses, family tents, and hygiene kits continue to be distributed until the situation completely recovers," he said.
