Teliti Before Buying, This Is Important To See Labels On Beauty Products
JAKARTA - Currently, consumers are required to be more careful before buying. One of the simplest but most important ways is to check the label on beauty product packaging.
From the label, we can find out whether the product already has a distribution permit from BPOM, understands the composition of its active ingredients, and ensures its safety for the skin.
The habit of reading labels not only helps consumers avoid fake products, but also prevents the risk of irritation or side effects caused by harmful chemicals.
A specialist in dermatology, venereology and aesthetics reminds consumers to check the label on skin care product packaging to ensure that the product to be purchased has been registered and has received a distribution permit from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
"If you buy those that are sold freely, pay attention to whether there is a label from BPOM, that's the most important number one, because with the label from BPOM it indicates that it has been checked and it is safer to circulate," said dr. Amaranila Lalita Drijono, Sp.DVE, FINSDV, FAADV, to ANTARA on Wednesday.
The doctor who graduated from the University of Indonesia explained that all cosmetic products marketed in Indonesia must have a distribution permit from BPOM, which is only issued after an examination of the content and safety of the product is carried out.
In addition to ensuring the distribution permit number, consumers are also advised to read the list of active ingredients contained in the packaging. In official licensed products, information about the content of the active material is clearly written on the label to help users choose products that suit their skin type and needs.

Furthermore, dr. Amarianila reminded that the long-term use of products that contain hydroquinons above the safe limit can have serious side effects on skin health.
"It's a bit difficult to find out, because he's both a white cream usually," he said about how to recognize products that contain hydroquinons. We just found out that sometimes there are hydroquinons, one of which is if exposed to the sun for a long time, turns into a bit of a fine because it's oxidized, so maybe we can suspect it contains hydroquinons," he explained.
According to him, products that contain both hydroquinons and retinoids should be used under the supervision of doctors. Doctors will adjust doses and how to use them to prevent irritation or allergic reactions to the skin.
He also highlighted the importance of public education regarding the rules for using skin care products that contain active chemicals such as hydroquinons and retinoids, including potential side effects if used carelessly.
If after using certain products there is a negative reaction such as redness, itching, or changes in skin tone, dr. Amarianila recommends that consumers immediately consult with professional medical personnel.
"The product was also taken to the doctor to show that what had been used so that hopefully it helps doctors in enforcing the right diagnosis for complaints suffered by the user," he said.
