Transjakarta Has Not Planned To Add Bus Even Though The Number Of Passengers Continues To Rise, This Is The Reason
JAKARTA - President Director of PT Transjakarta admitted that they have not planned to increase the number of new fleets by 2026, although the number of passengers continues to increase. This decision was taken because management still prioritizes the procurement of electric buses which are currently running until the end of 2025.
Welfizon said the plan to add 200 units of electric buses this year has become the company's main focus. After that, an evaluation will be carried out to ensure the efficiency of the route and suitability with the budget allocation discussed with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.
"We will complete the addition of buses this year. Actually it is a rejuvenation process for electric buses. Then our route is being evaluated, because of course we also have to be in line with the budget process in the council," Welfizon told reporters, Wednesday, November 5.
He admitted that the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of Transjakarta passengers in September 2025 rose 2.86 percent compared to August 2025 and jumped 12.48 percent compared to September 2024.
However, according to Welfizon, the addition of fleets is not the only solution to balance the increase in the number of passengers. Transjakarta now prefers to intensify services on existing routes to be more efficient and integrated with other modes of transportation.
"Our focus going forward is to try to intensify the routes that we have built," he said.
On the other hand, Welfizon also revealed a gap between the availability of infrastructure and the level of use of public transportation in Jakarta.
Based on data, 91.8 percent of public transportation infrastructure has been prepared by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, so nine out of ten residents should be able to access public transportation within 5-10 minutes.
However, the share mode or share share share of public transportation users has only reached around 22 percent. "We have actually tried to focus on this data for the last two years. How to do this so that 22 percent can increase, so that infrastructure can be optimal," he said.
Therefore, in order to encourage the public's transition to public transportation, Transjakarta relies on campaign strategies and more aggressive brand strengthening. Welfizon assessed that the old paradigm that considers public services passive in communicating with customers must be changed.
"So far, people have always talked about it if the campaign that can be aggressive is private. The ojol campaign company is massive. But if it's a public service, just answer the complaint, it's as if the paradigm is like that. This is what we change. So we start to be more aggressive, encourage marketing campaigns, strengthen brands more strongly," he explained.
For information, BPS DKI Jakarta recorded the number of Transjakarta passengers in September 2025 reaching 36,437,848 people. The number of Transjakarta passengers in September 2025 was recorded to have increased to 2.86 percent (month-to-month), where the number of passengers in August 2025 reached 35,425,055 people.
