BNPB Asks Residents To Be Alert To Extreme Weather In Central Java Until Next Year
SEMARANG - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) asked the public, especially in Central Java, to be aware of the potential for extreme weather until the beginning of next year which is feared to have an impact on natural disasters.
"From the BMKG, this rainfall will take place quite massively for Central Java until early 2026," said Head of BNPB Suharyanto while inspecting the Semarang Terboyo Retention Pool, Monday, November 3.
The review of the Terboyo Retention Pump was in order to monitor flood management measures in Semarang City which had been going on for more than a week.
"Alhamdulillah. This is relatively better. Although there are still a few puddles, for the past two or three days we make sure everything is dry and under control," he said.
According to him, the results of integrated coordination between BNPB and related agency elements concluded that one of the flood triggers in Semarang City could not be separated from the influence of extreme weather on the second basis of October 2025.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that in November and December 2025 until early 2026 it still shows the potential for massive extreme weather in Central Java.
Therefore, he said, mitigation and preparedness efforts and community capacity must be increased.
He said it was the key so that similar disasters did not occur or at least the impact could be suppressed in the future.
"We have found the trigger and cause. The reason is of course quite extreme rainfall. We must carry out mitigation and prevention," he said.
Short and medium-term handling as a mitigation step, he said, has been carried out by weather modification operations in the Central Java region.
"In fact, for Central Java we have deployed a 'full' force, yes, there are two aircraft that continue to carry out 1x24 hours of reducing rain clouds that can cause heavy rain," he said.

With these weather modification efforts, he hopes that heavy rains will not occur in the Central Java region, especially Semarang, which could cause flooding for the next few days.
For handling on land, he said, pumping efforts had been prepared to prevent flooding, both from BNPB, provincial governments, and the Semarang City Government.
"Bawah memang sudah ada rencana besar untuk pengendalian banjir. Tapi, masih belum jadi, masih 40 persen dari Kementerian PU (Pekerjaan Umum) sehingga tentu saja ada beberapa titik yang terketahunya setelah terjadi banjir," katanya.
