Ministry Of Public Works Adds Five Water Pumps To Overcome Floods In Semarang
JAKARTA - Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works (PU) Dwi Purwantoro confirmed that his party had added five water pumps to deal with flooding in Semarang, Central Java.
Dwi said, currently a total of 35 water pumps have been deployed.
"The total pump capacity is 270 liters per second," said Dwi when met at his office, Jakarta, Friday, October 31.
Thanks to the addition of the water pump, according to Dwi, the height of the puddle in Terboyo Retention Pool, which initially reached 1.8 meters, has now dropped to 1.4 meters.
Even so, Dwi said that until Friday afternoon, there were still puddles of water as high as 40-60 centimeters in three locations, namely the Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unisula), the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital (RS) and the Demak Polytron.
"We hope that, yes, one to two days it can dry up and the Kaligawe National Road can already be run for vehicles. Yesterday big vehicles were able to, only small vehicles had not," he said.
In addition, Dwi also admitted that there were obstacles in the downstream part of the Terboyo Retention Pool which caused the pump not to operate optimally and the decrease in puddles took longer.
"Now it's opened, so it's faster. So, one day it can go down between 20-25 centimeters," he said.
