Riau Islands Police Wait For Labfor Results Determine Fire Suspects At PT ASL

Head of Riau Islands Regional Police (Kapolda Kepri) Inspector General Asep Safrudin said his party was still waiting for the results of the examination by the National Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) to determine the party responsible for the fire of the Federal II ship at PT ASL Marine Shipyard.

Asep emphasized that there were no obstacles in the investigation or investigation of work accidents that resulted in 14 deaths, and 17 others were injured.

"There are no obstacles, we are still waiting for the Labfor," Asep said in Batam, Friday, October 31, as reported by ANTARA.

The Regional Police Chief said that currently the National Police Labfor Team was examining the results of the investigation of the crime scene he was doing at the PT ASL Marine Shipyard shipyard for dilaboratorium testing.

In addition, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Barelang Police have examined more than 43 witnesses in the case.

"Then the K3 has also been investigated by the labor service. Later we will combine all the results of this examination to find out the real case," said Asep.

Since Friday (24/10), the Barelang Police have raised the status of the MT Federal II fire case to the investigation stage. Based on the results of the investigation, it was found that there were allegations of criminal acts that resulted in people dying.

The second fire incident occurred Wednesday (15/10) at around 04.20 WIB. A total of 10 people died directly at the scene, as many as 21 others were seriously injured and lightly injured.

The number of victims who died increased the day after the incident, Thursday (16/10), to a total of 11 people. Then two other seriously injured victims died on October 20, bringing the total to 13 people. And the 14th victim died on Tuesday (28/10).

The MT Federal II ship fire, which is being repaired at PT ASL Marine Shipyard, is the second time this has happened. The first incident on June 24 killed four people and injured five others.

In the first fire incident, two people were named as suspects, currently being transferred to the case file for evidence at trial.
