Governments Of Indonesia And The UK Build Collaboration In Cyber Security

JAKARTA - The governments of Indonesia and the UK have agreed to build new collaborations in cybersecurity, in maintaining digital space and ensuring the foundation of national digital transformation remains resilient.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, stated that collaboration with countries that have better expertise and experience in the digital sector is a strategic step so that Indonesia is ready to face the risks of cyber threats in the digital space.

Reflecting on the occurrence of cyber attacks on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) in 2024, Nezar emphasized the importance of having high cybersecurity standards for every digital infrastructure.

"The UK experience is very valuable, we hope that the partnership between the two countries can increase national digital security and resilience," Nezar said in his official broadcast quoted Friday, October 31.

The Deputy Ambassador of England to Indonesia, Matthew Downing, welcomed this strategic partnership. According to him, cyber threats have created challenges as well as collaboration opportunities between the two countries.

"Strengthening cyber resilience is not just a technical priority, but a strategic necessity for both countries. It also supports the UK-Indonesian strategic partnership, something that has long been established between the two countries," said Matthew.

Matthew stated that Britain is ready to support digital transformation in Indonesia through the collaboration of the two countries in the form of knowledge exchange, capacity development, and technology partnerships.

Meanwhile, the Government is also drafting a Cyber Security and Resilience Law to ensure that all important digital infrastructure owned by the government and the private sector has adopted an adequate cybersecurity system.
