Fire At The Kramat Jati Police Dormitory Was Caused By An Electric Short Circuit

The fire that hit a house at the Police Dormitory complex, Kramat Jati Village, East Jakarta, on Thursday at around 16:29 WIB was allegedly triggered by an electrical short circuit.

The object that caught fire was a residence in the Kramat Jati Village Police Dormitory belonging to Mrs. Enang Sunarsih covering an area of 15 square meters (m2).

"The cause is an electrical short," said Head of the Operations Section of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Abdul Wahid, ANTARA, Thursday, October 30.

The fire caused panic among local residents, before it was finally successfully extinguished by the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. (East Jakarta) in a short time.

A spark from an electrical short circuit triggered a fire that then burned part of the house building. "So the report suddenly showed that there was an electric short circuit. Residents panicked, then contacted us," he said.

Abdul said that his party received a fire report at around 16.31 WIB. "As soon as we received the report, six fire engines with a total of 30 personnel were immediately dispatched to the location," said Abdul.

The fire team arrived at the location at 16.36 WIB and immediately extinguished it. The fire was successfully localized at 16.40 WIB and cooled at around 16.45 WIB.

Abdul confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. One occupant of the house managed to save himself before the fire grew.

Although there were no casualties, the fire caused material losses which were estimated at Rp40 million. A number of household furniture and the roof of the building were burned down.

During the blackout process, officers were also assisted by residents and security members around the Police Dormitory. The road to the location was temporarily closed to make it easier for fire engines to extinguish the fire.

After the fire was completely extinguished and declared safe, officers cooled down to ensure there were no hotspots left. "The fire status was declared extinguished and completed around 17.01 WIB," he said.

Abdul appealed to the public to be more aware of the potential for fires in settlements, especially during the rainy season accompanied by the current wind.
