Ministry Of P2MI Reminds Departure Of Procedural Attitude 446 PMI From NTT Deported In 2 Years

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) through the Center for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP3MI) East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has asked prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to go to work abroad procedurally or legally.

"We ask all levels of society and relevant stakeholders to help prevent the departure of non-procedural PMI candidates by providing information about the importance of taking official government procedures," said Head of the BP3MI NTT Administration Sub-Division Lukas Doni Pura in Kupang, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that with the official procedure, the legal protection and safety of workers will be more secure. For information, you can contact the nearest district/city Manpower Office or BP3MI NTT.

"We hope that anyone who wants to work abroad must follow the official government's path of getting full protection. Don't be tempted by the fast process without documents, because the risk is big," he said.

He said that during the last two years 446 Indonesian migrant workers from NTT had been deported from their destination countries.

"In 2024 there were 295 cases of deportation, while as of September 2025, 151 cases were recorded. A total of 446 people and the majority were deported from Malaysia," he said.

He explained that most of the migrant workers were deported due to immigration violations or did not have official documents while working abroad.

"The majority are non-procedural or illegal migrant workers. Incomplete immigration documents keep them detained, especially in Malaysia," he said.

He said the deported workers were facilitated to return to their hometowns. "They are also recorded and educated if they want to leave again, they must go through official channels," he added.

Based on data from BP3MI NTT, towards the end of October 2025, as many as 114 bodies of migrant workers have been facilitated to return to their area of origin, consisting of 107 people who departed illegally and 7 others who were legal. As for 2024, as many as 125 bodies of PMI NTT were sent home.

"One of BP3MI NTT's efforts to reduce or limit the potential of non-procedural PMI is carried out in collaboration with local governments, provincial governments, NGOs engaged in PMI, as well as religious parties (Protestan and Catholics)," he said.
