Ministry Of Transportation-TNI Illegal Mining In Gunung Halimun Salak National Park

The Directorate General of Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Forestry (Gakkum Kemenhut) held a joint operation with the TNI to crack down on the practice of illegal gold mining (PETI) within the Halimun Salak National Park (TN Julik) area, West Java.

"Today's enforcement activities are carried out in order to follow up on the direct direction of the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni. We act decisively, measurably, and sustainably to restore the area and provide a deterrent effect," said Director General of Gakkum Kemenhut Dwi Januanto Nugroho as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 29.

"We are grateful for the active public participation that has reported the incident of PETI in TN.

In the operation carried out today, Director General of Gakkum Kemenhut Januanto conveyed that joint operations with the TNI began in Ciear Block, Cisarua Village, Sukajaya District, Bogor, West Java and will continue to other locations in the Halimun span according to the operation plan.

The prosecution is prioritized considering that it is currently entering the rainy season, with the risk of hydrometeorological disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and sediment flows, it will increase if the damage to the area due to PETI is allowed.

The action in the Ciear Block was carried out by a joint team of the Directorate General of Forestry Gakkum, Balai Gakkumhut Jabalnusra, Balai TN Lihat, Yonif 315, Koramil Cigudeg totaling 60 personnel. In the operation, the joint team succeeded in destroying 31 blue tents.

In the field, the team stopped activities, secured evidence in the form of cyanide chemicals, jerry cans used for oil, manual scales, complainants, controlling mining facilities, namely blue tents or gubugs, and taking action in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

Coordination is carried out with TN managers, local governments, and law enforcement elements for further operations. This is because previous enforcement efforts were hampered, one of which was due to the "cat and mouse" pattern carried out by the perpetrators.

He appealed to people who found PETI practices to report to the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights of the Ministry of Law or through the local Gakkum Center.
