Fear Of Being Enraged By Mobs, 70 Meters Tower Climbing Cable Thief In South Lampung

Joint officers managed to evacuate a man who was desperate to climb Telkomsel's base transceiver station (BTS) tower in Canggung Village, Kalianda District, South Lampung Regency, after being caught stealing cables.

Head of the Fire Department at the South Lampung Damkarmat Service, Rully Fikriansyah, said that there were three perpetrators, residents of Merak Belantung Village.

"There are three perpetrators. Two people were arrested by residents this morning, while one person was panicked and afraid that the masses would climb a tower as high as approximately 70 meters," said Rully in Kalianda, Antara, Wednesday, October 29.

Rully explained that the evacuation process from above the tower lasted quite a long time. Officers must make various efforts, ranging from persuading to bringing the perpetrator's family to the location to be willing to step down.

"We received reports from residents that there were cable theft perpetrators who were desperate to climb into the tower and did not want to go down. We tried to seduce him, then brought in his family so that the perpetrators were willing to come down," he said.

Joint officers from the Damkarmat, Kalianda Police, and Kodim 0421/South Lampung were deployed to assist the rescue process.

"We prepared complete equipment. The evacuation process lasted for about four hours until finally the perpetrator wanted to go down," added Rully.

Setelah berhasil diturunkan, pelaku langsung diamankan bersama dua rekannya oleh polisi untuk mempertanggungjawabkan perbuatannya. Ketiganya kini ditahan di Polres Lampung Selatan.

After successfully being taken down, the perpetrator was immediately secured along with two of his colleagues by the police to account for his actions. The three of them are now being held at the South Lampung Police.
