The Maestro Stage Brings Bali Artists To West Sumatra To Build Cultural Energy

JAKARTA The space for traditional arts is increasingly squeezed in the public sphere. For this reason, the Maestro Stage was held again at the National Museum of Indonesia, presenting traditional arts maestros from Bali and West Sumatra on October 28, 2025.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said this stage is an honorable space for maestros who for life maintain traditional arts. They are a source of inspiration. We hope that maestros will continue to reduce knowledge and skills to the younger generation," said Menbud Fadli Zon in an official statement, Tuesday, October 28.

According to him, increasingly rare traditional arts need to strengthen their presence in society. "The appearance of maestro is very rare. Many are looking forward to this show," said Fadli.

This 9th performance features Bali's Gambuuh Gambuhan maestro such as I Made Djimat, I Wayan Bawa, and Ni Wayan Sekariani. From West Sumatra there are Asmar (Gondang Baroguang), Asnimar (Tari Piriang), Ernawati (Dendang), M. Halim (Saluang), and Masri (Tari Buai-Buai).

Director General of Development, Utilization, and Development of Culture, Ahmad Mahendra, emphasized that the Maestro Stage is not just an art stage. This revives cultural energy," he said.

In addition to performances, there is the Wacana Stage: Temu and Bincang Maestro who discuss the values and trips of art that they have guarded for decades.

A number of figures were also present, including the Expert Staff of the Minister for Economic Affairs and Culture Industry Anindita Kusuma Listy; Special Staff to the Minister for Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations Annisa Rengganis; Director of Digital Culture Development Andi Syamsu Rizal; and Director of Culture Diplomacy Raden Usman Effendi.

The Maestro stage was first held in July 2023. The government targets this program to continue to be present in various regions so that maestros can continue to obtain space, recognition, and appreciation for their contribution to keeping traditional art maestros alive in the midst of changing times.
