Deputy Minister Of Investment Calls Toyota Interested In Building Etanol Factory

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Agency (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu revealed that a number of foreign investors are interested in building ethanol factories in Indonesia. One of them, an automotive company from Japan, Toyota.

"Yes, build an ethanol factory. Toyota is one of the interested ones, outside of that there are a few more," said Todotua, after Sarasehan 100 Economists, in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 28.

Todotua admitted that he had communicated with Toyota. He said the plan to develop ethanol in Indonesia was considered in line with the direction of companies that have hydrogen and bioethenol-based products.

"Even Toyota products are actually capable, so if I'm not mistaken they use 100 percent E100, 100 percent use ethanol," said Todotua.

In talks with Toyota, Todotua said the company alluded to the certainty of raw materials for ethanol factories.

"This means that Toyota is also the result of our conversation with Toyota and convincing their Toyota to secure their upstream feedstock. Feedstock is for the supply of raw materials, so they are also serious about entering the ethanol plan. Hopefully this process can smooth, it can be realized soon," said Todotua.

Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that he had prepared incentives for investors who wanted to build ethanol factories in Indonesia. In fact, there is an opportunity for tax exemption for investors.

Bahlil ensured that there would be incentives for investors later. Including tax breaks in the form of tax holidays.

"Certainly, there must be incentives. There can be a tax holiday, then the market is captive," said Bahlil, met at the National Monument, Jakarta, Friday, October 24.
