Central Customs Office Demolished In The Aftermath Of Imported Steel

JAKARTA - Hundreds of steel construction workers from various companies held a demonstration in front of the Central Customs and Excise building on Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta.

The workers brought a command car to express their aspirations regarding the rejection of steel imports from abroad.

"There are also many friends here who have lost their jobs and many people ask us, why is there no more steel construction work," said Chairman of the Indonesian Society of Steel Construction (ISSC) Budi Harta Winata, in front of the Central Customs and Excise Building, East Jakarta, Tuesday, October 28.

The crowd also carried props, such as banners and pamphlets with the narration "Strict supervision of HS Code 9406.xx & 7388.xx imported steel construction by Customs".

In addition, there is also another banner that reads "Stop Importing Steel Construction", "Let's Wear Domestic Steel Construction" and "Save the domestic welder by stopping imports of steel construction".

The steel construction employees from various regions wore the helems of construction workers and vests characteristic of project workers.

According to Budi, there are still many factories, warehouses and malls built by contractors that do not use domestic products, one of which is steel construction.

He also asked Customs and Excise to stop imports of steel from abroad and to trust domestic products more.

"Today we came to Customs and Excise to ask for strict supervision and stop importing steel construction," said Budi.
