Five Students Defendant Of Riot Demo Labor Day Sentenced To 2 Months 16 Days In Prison

Five students who were accused of rioting during a demonstration in the context of Labor Day in Semarang City, Central Java, on May 1, 2025, were sentenced to 2 months and 16 days in prison.

The verdict read by Chief Justice Rudy Ruswoyo at the trial at the Semarang State Court, Monday, October 27, was lighter than the public prosecutor's demands for 3 months in prison.

The five students, respectively Kemal Maulana, Muhammad Akmal Sajid, Afta Dhiaulhaq Alfahis, Afrizal Nur Hysam, and Mohammad Jovan, were proven to have violated Article 216 of the Criminal Code paragraph 1 regarding disobeying the officers' orders.

The defendants were deemed not to heed the police's warning not to act anarchically in the Labor Day action in front of the Central Java Governor's Office.

"The verdict is the same as the period of detention. Ordered the defendants to be immediately removed from city detention," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

In their consideration, the judge assessed that the defendants' actions had disturbed the community. In addition, the defendants still have a responsibility to complete education in universities.

Regarding the decision, the four defendants still expressed their thoughts, while the defendant Mohammad Jovan immediately stated that he accepted.
