Israel Claims Its UNIFIL-Based Drone Does Not Mean Threatening UN Peace Forces

JAKARTA - The Israeli military argued that one of its drone or drone that was brought down by the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon was not in an attempted attack.

The drone entered the southern Lebanese airspace region just above the UNIFIL troop patrol on Sunday, October 26 local time.

Yesterday, an IDF intelligence drone crashed in the Kfar Kila area of southern Lebanon in routine intelligence gathering activities in the area, said Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani on X, Monday 27 October, quoted from AFP.

Preliminary investigations show that UNIFIL troops stationed nearby deliberately shot down the drone. The drone activity poses no threat to UNIFIL forces," Nadav continued.

After the Israeli drone shooting, the Israeli military claimed to have dropped grenades at the area where the drone crashed. Israel added that its troops did not shoot UNIFIL forces.

Yesterday, UNIFIL announced its patrols maintain peace in southern Lebanon being attacked by Israeli-owned drones. The drone flies aggressively over patrols so defensive action is needed.

"The peacekeeping forces are implementing the defensive countermeasures necessary to neutralize the drone", UNIFIL said in a statement.

UNIFIL condemned Israel's unincurring military action because it threatened the safety of the UN peacekeeping force. The drone's actions were also proven to violate the resolution of 1701 UN Security Councils and Lebanon's sovereignty.

The preventive action against the drone was carried out because UNIFIL forces were often targeted by Israeli militarism. Many have been injured to the death of UNIFIL forces tasked with maintaining peace by overseeing a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
