Indonesia Sends Six Ju-jitsu Athletes To The 2025 SEA Games

JAKARTA - The Ju-jitsu Indonesia (PBJI) Executive Board has prepared the six best athletes to compete in the 2025 SEA Games which is scheduled to be held in December 2025 with a target of two gold medals.

"Actually, we prepared many athletes. However, after going through four reviews by Assistant Deputy and Deputy IV of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), six athletes were determined," said PBJI General Chair Dedy Triharjanto in Kudus, Saturday.

He said that later a total of 13 people would be involved in preparing the Indonesian ju-jitsu national team for the biennial event, including athletes, coaches, and support teams.

Even though there are only six athletes, he admits that he is grateful because not all sports have the same opportunity to be sent to the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia.

The requirements to be sent to the biennial championship, he said, were not easy, because they had to have experience on the international stage as well as additional experience in the country, so they had to have two tickets, namely international champions and of course national champions.

At the end of October, he added, a review will be carried out again in the hope that there will be additional athlete allocations.

"We heard that the government through the President of the Republic of Indonesia is very supportive for sports that are prepared to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand," he said.

Of the six athletes appointed, three of them are from East Java, two from West Java, and one from DKI Jakarta. They will compete in various match numbers based on weight classes because in the SEA Games, the categories competed are only determined based on weight.

Even if later there will be an increase in the number of athletes, then athletes who won from the 2025 Kudus Self-Defense PON will be prioritized to participate in the selection to the Thailand SEA Games.

"PBJI remains optimistic that it can meet the two gold medals at the 2025 SEA Games, as well as strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the ju-jitsu forces in the Southeast Asia region," he said.
