Automotive Market Lesu, Gaikindo Still Sets A Target Of 850 Thousand Units This Year

JAKARTA - Car sales in Indonesia are not doing well, even based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) from January to September 2025, only 561,819 units were sold.

With this figure, there was a decrease of 11.3 percent compared to the previous year which reached 633,660 units. Nevertheless, Gaikindo remained optimistic until the end of the year to reach a total of 850 thousand units.

The Daily Chairman of Gaikindo, Anton Kemal Tasli, said that his party still wanted to see sales performance in November 2025. Because, in the last few months there has been a slight growth in wholesale car sales.

"While our (target) has not changed, we want to see it until this November. Changing now, wanting to change in the future also doesn't mean anything, right," he said, when met on the sidelines of the GJAW press conference, in the Senayan area, Thursday, October 23.

He further hopes that after November it can be clearer. But while the target is still the same 850 thousand units. He also hopes that this GJAW exhibition can help.

"While we haven't changed yet, it's still there too. We say it's not a target, we estimate (the sale) is that much. We will try to catch up to the last drop of blood," he added.

To pursue the figure of 850 thousand units by the end of the year, it means that sales of 250 thousand units are needed in the last three months of this year, or sales of 83 thousand units per month to achieve the target.

Back to GJAW, the exhibition was attended by many well-known brands and some will even debut in the world and there is a new brand. Toyota is one of those who will show off at the event, then there is Changan who will introduce two car models.
