In Order Not To Be Extinct, The Ministry Of Education Encourages The Preservation Of Madura Culture And Language Through Campus And Creative Economy
JAKARTA Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized the importance of the role of universities in maintaining the sustainability of regional culture, especially in Madura. This was conveyed when receiving an audience from the Chancellor of Trunojoyo University Madura (UTM), Prof. Safi, at Building E Kemenbud, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, October 23.
Language and regional culture must be preserved through educational institutions. Otherwise, the speakers will disappear, and the language will go extinct," said Menbud Fadli. He gave an example that several campuses already have learning programs for pencak silat and keris as a form of cultural institutionalization.
During the meeting, Menbud Fadli also highlighted the importance of preserving the art of Madura Keris whose quality is no less than Bali or Yogyakarta. According to him, the expertise of the Madura community in making keris can become a creative economy motorcycle while strengthening local identity.
Regarding cultural conservation, including keris, all parties must work together. The government, universities, the private sector, and the community need to collaborate to build cultural orchestration," he said.
In addition to language and Keris, Fadli highlighted the historical sites in Madura that can be developed as educational centers and cultural tourism. He called the Cakraningrat Museum and the site of the legacy of the great scholar Syaikhona Kholil as examples of potential locations that deserve to be worked on seriously.

The Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Safi, positively welcomed this view. He invited Minister Fadli to be the mainnote speaker at the Madura Cultural Congress (KKM) which will present cultural observers, artists, and students.
"We will also present Zawawi Imron so that students can learn directly about Madura literature and culture," said Safi.
At the end of the meeting, Fadli expressed his full support for the KKM initiative. He hopes that Madura culture will continue to develop into the strength of the regional creative economy.
"We are committed to supporting local culture conservation. Madura has great potential to be an example of how culture can live as well as prosper," he said.
